Essential VI:

Health Policy and Advocacy

When it is time to discuss healthcare policy, we dive into the world of money. It has been so difficult to wrap my head around the way our society has built a business out of healthcare. At this stage in my career there are so many blinders that have been stripped away.

Advocating for my patients always came easy to me, but fully understanding our lack of resources and how imperative it is for our touch on teaching healthy lifestyle earlier. The only way to prevent usage of very expensive medical care, is to not need to use it. I believe we need to have play a bigger part in preventing so much sodas and fast food opportunities to everyone, increase activity, and eliminate tobacco.

As we have prepared, these past two years I am equipped to build a program that will encompass service learning, health policy, patient advocacy, critical thinking, skill acquisition, and so much more.
